The moment you see a pretty young lady, you would want to look at her back and back again. At first glance, she looked like the ABS-CBN actress Anne Curtis. But when you gaze on her more longer, she looks like Sunshine Cruz and Shaina Magdayao. But better be careful to conclude, this young lady has got a lovely personality distinction herself. Lively, articulate, warm.
Her name is Denz Jovelle, the latest refreshing new find in tinseltown.
Denz is included in the film Butanding, directed by Edd Palmos and which stars Lara Precious Quigaman, Lou Baron, Jerome Manzano and Tessie Lagman. She plays the role there of the young Lara Quigaman, who’s the daughter of the character that Ms. Lou Baron (a Hollywood Pinay singer) is portraying. The role is very challenging because Denz portrays a young rebel and drunkard, with many dramatic scene highlights. As a newcomer, according to director Edd Palmos (who directed the film), Denz delivered well and good.
“Her sophistication and depth added colors to her dramatic character in the film”, director Edd told a blogger. “She could be very well be the next Anne Curtis of Philippine movies.”
In between shooting breaks, a blogger managed to have a tete-a-tete with Denz. She’s very joyful to talk with, very jolly and casual.
How’s it acting now in the movies, Denz? A blogger asked.
“For me, this experience is something totally new”, Denz answered. “But so far, okey naman. I am quite tense at the start, but direk Edd motivated me well with my character on the film. That’s why I got more comfortable later on.”
What about the new people? The showbiz people, we mean.
“Oh, they are nice!”, Denz answered again. “You just have to bring back to them the niceness they give you, and they will be nice to you, too. With me, I just have to be careful on what to say. I am new and I don’t want to be misinterpreted. I still have to adjust fully well before I get to be carefree with what I say.”
In case you don’t know, Denz is a champion skater. She’s been skating since she was a kid. She already won awards and medals in other countries as being a world skater. She had traveled to many countries competing and exhibiting her skills on skating. And she knows Michael Christian Martinez (the Pinoy world champion skater) fully well ever since they were kids.
“This coming May 27, I will be graduating na on College”, Denz blurted on. “And I feel, why not give movies a try? A break from my studies and my being a skater. I want to give more time this time on my acting career. I plan to join acting workshops to further enhance my acting skills. I’ve been around a quite though in the world of showbiz. I have appeared in some TV drma shows and modelling jobs. But I didn’t have a full time to concentrate on it because I prioritized my studies and my skating. So, this time, why not?, I said to myself.”
Denz plans to go on a strict physical diet, too.
“Now, I’m so conscious of my body fats and all”, she said. “That’s why I really wanna go on a diet. I want to be physically looking good when I get to be busy na in showbiz.”
Director Edd Palmos is planning now a launching movie vehicle for Denz. It’s going to be a light romantic comedy film, the type of a film that Antoinette Jadaone (a young film maker of Star Cinema) does. And the film will star Denz opposite three handsome guys- JM de Guzman, Rocco Nacino and Vince Tanada. It’s entitled Okey Lang Kahit Complicated.
“I heard that direk Edd has finished the script already,” Denz told a blogger. “I am pretty excited to do that film. And I am so nervous to have these romantic scenes opposite JM and Rocco. I just hope it pushes through.”
And again, in case you don’t know still, Denz is also a blogger like this blogger. She has her own blog site named DIGITAL JOURNEY (denzjovelle.blogspot.com). She features there her travels abroad as a world figure skater.
Meanwhile, let’s all welcome Denz with a big hug in showbiz tinsel town. This young lass is surely an ‘X-Factor’. Yes na yes!
Once upon a time, there was a LADY. She loved her native land but she had to go away to discover some more hidden aspects beneath her soul. She had to journey far and wide and conquer a world of liberty and freedom. In the U.S. of A., she found herself and her talents were discovered. She married a very supportive man, became a beauty queen, an advocate and later on, a writer. She wrote award-winning books on life, spirituality and powerful visions. But the most powerful gift of hers was her singing voice. It was with her all along, as she soared higher heights of ecstasy and love. Though it was a journey less-traveled by, her strength and compassion became more solidified.
Until she reached the prime GOLDEN years of her life. One time, she was simply recording her own songs at a certain recording studio. But when the recording studio owner heard her voice, the opportunity came higher. And the rest was history. Remarkably, she’s a FILIPINA, now in her early ’60’s. It’s a breakthrough no one has ever imagined.
She won awards left and right, citations and accomplishments for such a wonderful lady. The L.A. Music awards bowed to her singing skills. Her songs hitting the top charts, and everything seemed unstoppable. She is, indeed, a WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE.
Her name: Ms. LOU BARON.
And she’s a very gentle lady.
Now, the gentle lady comes back HOME, literally, through her upcoming film Butanding. A film which was shot and made fully in her native land- the Philippines. A film she could be very-well proud of, because it speaks of life, the sea- and the lovable “butandings” (a rare species of friendly and gentle whale sharks that’s near to extinction). And this is, what we call- when life imitates art itself.
Just like the butandings, Lou will always come back to her home after years of accomplishing and struggling with the hectic schedules of her professional life. Just like the butandings, she will always find comfort in a place she prefers to. In both cases, it’s the Philippine seas for the butandings, and the Philippine soil for Lou.
Yes, Lou will again be back home on the month of June. She will meet again the director of her film, no less than veteran film maker Edd Palmos. Their film will be having a World Premiere in the Philippines by that month, and all of Lou’s relatives, families and friends are invited to watch it.
“Maybe in my own little way, I can relay a message via this film”, Lou told a blogger during their last press conference for the film held a couple of months back. “I can attract an international appeal to save these gentle creatures of the sea. And I can honestly say, that embracing back your roots and your native land, is the most endearing love that one could feel.”
Life is indeed magical… mysterious… powerful. It creates situations and milestones that’s worth seeing and experiencing by. In the case of this gentle lady named Lou, her home is where her heart stays.
Tessie Lagman’s journey into the world of her broadcasting career, we could say, is “one for the books”. It’s a journey of great calm and strong will, added with colors of laughter, accomplishments and dedication. One could consider her as a real ICON in the field of radio broadcasting. Because she has managed to stay there for more than two decades now.
She started as an ordinary provinciana lass, fresh from her graduation in high school education.
“I at once was offered to become a radio broadcaster for DZXT”, Tessie started saying to a blogger. “The year was 1964. I was very young. And that started it all.
“After that, when I was already in College, I joined the DZTC radio broadcasting network. And the rest was history.”
But a few years after, Tessie discovered another hidden talent- and that was singing. She joined a popular singing contest on TV during the early ’70’s- Tawag Ng Tanghalan. And she became a Champion in that T.V. singing contest for five long weeks.
“ABS-CBN saw me after”, Tessie continued saying. “And they invited me to join them in their radio network. It was D’WOW radio. I joined them also in the radio program Operetang Putol-Putol wherein I sang and act on that radio program which was a musical-variety. I was made then to choose between my broadcasting career and my singing career. I chose my broadcasting career, of course. My singing career just became my second priority.”
Tessie’s broadcasting career over ABS-CBN lasted then until the Martial Law during the late ’70’s. Then she transfered to RBS radio broadcasting network of the late Bob Stewart. She had a radio program there over DZBB, together with German Moreno.
Her program over DZBB was an advice radio program, dealing with matters of the heart and problems on life- wherein she had to give heartfelt advice and console letter-senders. Almost like the late Helen Vela who’s known for her Lovingly Yours, Helen.
(ms. tessie lagman’s golden voice during her youth, thanks to: limva123 for uploading it on youtube.com)
But in-between her broadcasting career, Tessie recorded songs. Her most popular was “Once There Was A Love”, her own cover of the popular Jose Feliciano song during those years. This song-cover of hers is still so popular up to now.
“Charlie Lozo of Bangis online radio once played that song on his radio program”, Tessie happily said. “And to his amazement, he got so many unlimited requests to play the song over and over again on his radio program. He contacted me afterwards and told me that I still have so many fans. And that jumpstarted it all back again for people to remember me once more.”
Soon after, Mr. Charlie Lozo, the publicist of the movie Butanding (which just had its last shooting day a few days back), asked Tessie for a meeting with director Ed Palmos (also the director of Butanding) at Mcdonald’s restaurant. Tessie got the biggest amazement of her life when direk Ed offered her a good role in the film.
“I asked direk Ed at that time- Direk, totoo ba talaga ang sinasabi mo? I couldn’t believe it!”, Tessie revealed to a blogger. “He’s willing to transform me into a character actress. And he told me- Kaya mo ‘yan, Tessie. With direk Ed’s good convincing power and charm, I answered yes finally. And true to his word, he abled to transform me- I mean, napaarte niya ako. He motivated me so well during our shooting days that I was able to portray the role of an offbeat character fully well.”
A blogger watched Tessie Lagman during the last day of shoot of the film Butanding. And indeed, the radio icon could act ACT. She was so good in every scene. Most of all in heavy dramatic higlights which were so physically and emotionally-draining, Ms. Tessie delivered great and good.
Yes, indeed. The ICON in the field of radio broadcasting is now deep into the acting scene. She never expected it. It just came. And she’s now more open for more acting jobs and tasks soon.
Director Ed Palmos, who’s so satisfied with Tessie’s capacity as an actress, is considering her once more in his upcoming next movie project right after Butanding. And Tessie also wants to appear in some TV teleseryes if offers will come her way.
“I am entering a new journey of my life, that, I can say now”, Tessie said in the end. “And I am happy that people still support me. Because I never left.”

Tayong lahat ay naglalakbay dahil may hinahanap tayo. O marahil, may gusto tayong tuklasin, sagutin, at namnamin…
Ang kanyang pagpapakumbaba samantalang she’s already an icon in the field of broadcasting ay tunay namang kahanga-hanga.
Kakabusog talaga. Naka-limang slices of chocolates yata ang nakain ng blogger na ito just in one sitting. Haha.
Anyway, balik tayo kina Norris John at Denz Salcines.
Napakagaan at napakasarap ding ka-kuwentuhan ni Father Chris, and at once, nakipag-bonding siya sa buong grupo nina Mam Tessie, Kuya Ernie, Norris, Denz and the rest…
Very physically and emotionally-draining ang eksenang iyon.
Kakainis… Haha. Pipigilan namin siyang umalis, pramis.
FAST CUT TO:

LOURDES BARON: “MOST NOMINATED ARTIST AT THE L.A. MUSIC AWARDS A POTENTIAL GRAMMY NOD”
67 Year Old Filipino Music Artist, Lourdes Duque Baron Creates Waves in Hollywood as Most Nominated Artist at the L.A. Music Awards and Potential Grammy Nod Baron is in a season of both nostalgia and reality about what it means to be starting a music career at an older age, and her life reflections have become the life and breath of her debut album and is honored to be nominated for LA Music Awards as well as a potential Grammy nomination. Burbank, CA (PRWEB) August 28, 2014 — At the tender age of 67, Lourdes Duque Baron, is taking Hollywood by storm as the breakout music artist of 2014. Baron is the most nominated artist for the L.A. Music Awards with four nods including: 1) Record of the Year, 2) Female Vocalist, 3) Hot AC Artist, and 4) Best Musical Single or Group. The producer, Andrew Lane, is also up for Producer of the Year, for Baron’s album, appropriately entitled “Feeling Good At Any Age.” The album, which includes three original songs; Don’t Promise Forever, My Spring in Paris, and Dance Again is also on the ballot for a 2015 Grammy nod. Baron is in a season of both nostalgia and reality about what it means to be starting a music career at an older age, and her life reflections have become the life and breath of her debut album. “I wanted to make the songs of this album like they’re chapters in a book, to try to really capture what I’m thinking about in that season of life,” she explains. “This record, to me, is probably one of the most interesting subject-wise. It’s a bit retrospective and honors musicians and classics of the past.” She continues, “It’s an honor for me to be nominated at the LA Music Awards because it has such a rich history of music talent and has helped launch the careers of so many incredible artists.” The Los Angeles Music Awards organization was founded in 1991 by Al Bowman who is also the executive producer of the Los Angeles Music Awards show; and co-founder of the Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards and Phoenix Music Awards. “Lourdes is a throwback to another era when genuine musical talent and ability truly mattered. She is an amazing talent, a timeless wonder that will bless our stages in 2014.” Bowman shared. The nominees attend two pre-award show press events at the Whisky A Go Go and are given an opportunity to perform for the press. Baron will be performing with AKNU on June 19, 2014 and at the voting party on September 25, 2014 at the voting party also held at the Whisky A Go Go. As an accomplished author of two books, Baron is refreshingly candid about the realities of her life. When she sits back to survey her experiences so far, the emotion that rises is one of gratitude, expressed on her favorite track and her tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, “Me and Mr Jones.” The retro doo wop ballad finds her taking in a dark chapter of her life when she was estranged from her husband and chronicled in her book, “I Called Myself Cassandra – detailing the wrong turns and heartaches that have allowed her to recognize the gifts in her life and the message of a new sunrise. The album, and the songs chosen, echoes these same experiences. “Me and Mr Jones” was recorded with AKNU, the group who enraptured Simon Cowell on the X-Factor in 2013.
MS. LOURDES BARON JUST FINISHED SHOOTING HER FIRST FILIPINO FILM ENTITLED “BUTANDING”. IT WAS SHOT IN THE PHILIPPINES. THE MOVIE TACKLES ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF THE “BUTANDINGS” (GENTLE WHALE SHARKS OF THE SEA ABOUT TO GO EXTINCT) AND WILL BE SHOWN INTERNATIONALLY. IT IS DIRECTED BY VETERAN FILIPINO FILM MAKER- ED PALMOS. SHE WILL BE BACK TO HER HOME COUNTRY- THE PHILIPPINES- ON THE MONTH OF JUNE FOR THE WORLD PREMIERE OF HER FILM.
(listen to ms. lourdes baron’s great voice above. oh, so wonderful!— sssip*)
She stood there with so much eloquence and grace. Power and style. Dignity and beauty.
As the host of the press conference further introduced her, she smiled so sweetly and candidly like a child. And you could already feel the greatness within her. Her name: Lourdes Duque Baron, an acclaimed international Filipina singer in Los Angeles, winning awards from L.A. Music Awards and her song on her latest CD album “Table for Two” (her own cover of the hit song) currently the no. 1 most requested song on ReverBration.
Though this time around, we’d rather not talk about her great accomplishments abroad. This time around, let’s talk about her being a Filipina, at 67 years of age. And that, she just finished shooting her scenes in her very first Filipino film entitled Butanding, directed by low-key veteran film director- Edd Palmos.
How was it like doing a film here, Ms. Baron?
“My schedules met with the shooting schedules of our director”, she answered. “And I am so proud to do my very first Filipino film, right here on my own country. I left 40 years ago, and I am 67 years old now. The shooting went fine and smooth. Director Ed was so good in motivating me and all the rest of the cast and crew were so supportive and friendly.”
Do you love Butandings, Ms. Baron?
“Yes, I love them so much”, she answered. “They are an endangered species. We must all learn on how to protect them, save them. That’s why when I learned that the film we’re doing will center on Butandings, I at once agreed. It’s my turn to do my little contributuion in saving them from extinction.”
One blogger added, the participation of Ms. Lourdes Baron in the film Butanding will create an international appeal and could help a lot- in a way that it can attract wider attention on the recent plight of the Butandings. Some people wants to kill them, actually, because they eat small fishes in the ocean and fishermen wants them away from their territories.
Ms. Baron will be back on the Philippines by the month of May. She will be attending the grand premiere night of this film here in Manila. She left a couple f weeks back after finishing shooting her scenes in the movie.
“It was a great experience”, she said. “I am a Filipina, by heart and soul. I fell in love with our culture and ways back again. And how I wish, I could live a simple life all over again as a Filipina by heart, though at this time now, I can no longer do that with all those busy schedules I have. But certainly I plan to visit more frequently this time. I may do a couple of films more soon. So definitely, I will be back.”
Counting on that, Ms. Baron. You’re greater than you think you are.
