sheena and brigitte mcbride: susunod sa mga yapak nina toni at alex gonzaga…

THE TWINS
THE TWINS

Napakahirap nu’ng mga papel na ginampanan nila, and to think, first movie pa lamang nila ‘yun!

twin brigitte1

“We watched ten psycho-thriller films before we shot Gemini“, kuwento pa ni Brigitte.

Magkakaroon ng theatrical release ang pelikulang Gemini early this year.

twin sheena1

My sister cooperated naman and we didn’t feel sorry at all dahil nakagawa agad kami ng isang movie na maipagmamalaki namin.”

“Sabi ko kay direk Ato- ‘direk, kinakabahan ako pero excited at the same time’.

THE TWINS WITH CO-STAR LANCE RAYMUNDO IN THE FILM “GEMINI”, TO BE RELEASEN THEATRICALLY SOON.

“He’s very genius.

“gemini”: what you don’t see won’t hurt you…

gemini

Simulan natin sa pangalan mo (While you still believe in what you see, in your own story, no one has the right to tell you that it isn’t true… Let’s start with your name).”

In SCIENCE:

The mind creates, it takes you to journeys, in life’s many labyrinths and puzzles… Sometimes, once you took those journeys, you’ll never gonna come back again. And very seldom, you can manage to cope those mind’s journeys and go back all over again.

In LOVE and FANTASY:

Only a soul or a human being with a great and powerful love can save you from the bondage of your own “phantoms”. There’s a hand reaching out on you, a love as powerful God’s grace and sacrifice, that will awaken you and cuddle you with coldness and with warmth.

It could be a FANTASY recreated by human beings. It could be a work of certain imaginations… but only then, you would be FREE.

Science, Love, Fantasy. All combined in one very delicate and intellectual film, that only a few could analyze and comprehend- just like the DUALITY that existed in the film Gemini.

Once more, the indie film industry has mastered its freedom away from commercialism. It went further beyond the horizons, traveled in and out of a mind set- and fulfilled an artistic work of ART.

Director Ato Bautista surely got there. The flow and the rhythm of the movie Gemini could be more appreciated when you close your eyes because you could feel its heart beating and pulsing, even if you’re gone and dead. To achieve this was such a monumental task- because you could feel the beauty of the film Gemini even if you didn’t see anything, even if you were blind- because what you didn’t see won’t ever hurt you.

Sometimes, the movie just stood still (as in “still life”), but even when it stood still- it journeyed far beyond your wildest imaginations.

But you would want to open your eyes again to see how the lead actor of this film- in person of Mon Confiado- acted-out with great subtlety, power and compassion. His speaking lines in the film were all too perfect, and very challenging to deliver. And only an actor like Mon could do justice on those very meaningful lines.

A very underrated actor, that is, Mon, was the one who brought life into this film. Despite the director’s very artistic rhythm and flow and the cinematographer’s graphic but beautiful “eyes” (for the camera)- someone had to stay to make it all ALIVE. And, only the ACTOR, could very well do that.

Surprisingly, the scriptwriter of this film was only just a KID. With the name of Shugo Praico. How could he ever travel so much in terms of psyche, love and conflicting feelings and versions of a marvel-like life by one set of twins- whether conjoined or not- was indeed a fantastic mission and assignment. But he delivered.

The ending of the film’s story was a mixture of science winning over love, but if you’d analyze it all over again, it was love who prepared the WAY to make Science win.

The other half twin was gone in the mind of the more natural twin-mate, but the more that the other half twin EXISTED … and lived. Yet, in the film, it was presented only in a VERY PHYSICAL WAY. Just analyze further, you’d know.

AND THE OLD TELEPHONE MACHINE RANG.

Someone would be calling again… but you’d never see who’s on the other line.

Because-

it was meant to be that way…

as the truth suffers, the eyes lingers on.

(from robert manuguid silverio’s facebook status, reprinted below):

A MILESTONE! Mon Confiado’s superb and very subtle acting performance in the movie Gemini is comparable to the acting styles of Hollywood actors like Nicholas Cage, Robert de Niro and Benicio del Toro (actors who can do character roles and lead roles at the same time, with much intensity and clarity)… Ang dating tuloy niya ay tila Richard Burton sa Hollywood na more than 9 times na-nominate as best actor sa oscar awards, but never nanalo? Kainis. Watch another splendid performance of Mon sa “Gemini” movie niya na entry sa darating na MMFF sa New Wave category. It’s the kind of acting I have hungered for in years!!!… P.S.: Kudos to direk Ato Bautista for his very artistic kind of direction and story, Shugo Praico for a superb script and Rain Yamson II for his majestic cinematography… In this film, ibang Lance Raymundo na naman ang nakita ko, a total change of look and acting style, while the Mcbride twins- Brigitte McBride & Sheena McBride Bonus were good, too, as new actresses, nakuha nila ang “soul” ng characters nila.

“For me, it’s one of the movies I’m really proud of”, bungad na wika ni Lance over a great lunch in a restaurant along Tomas Morato area. “Alam ko kasi na magandang pelikula ito, something I haven’t done in years. I am fascinated by director Ato Bautista’s style in movie making. And i really intend to do another film and work with him again soon.”

“I am really awed by director Ato Bautista’s creativity in this film”, dagdag na sabi pa ni Lance. “He is really artistic at may international appeal ang mga pelikulang ginagawa niya. All of my co-actors in this film, lahat sila, really impressed kay direk Ato.”

“As I’ve seen in recent film festivals held here, I know na intellegent na ang mga movie viewers and they can appreciate na films like this one- itong Gemini film namin”, anya pa. “I am sure that this time, they can digest na films like this one.

lance with co-actors
lance with co-actors

“I am a ladies’ man in the film”, sey ni Lance. “A debonaire man na may hidden agenda. I will swoon over the character of Ina Feleo in the film na isang news reporter, pero ‘yun pala ay may hidden interests ako. The film is about political whistle blowers kaya highly-interesting ang plot ng movie. Let’s talk about this new film of mine soon.”

Sa pamamagitan ng pag-aalay ng inspirational speaking engagements in various schools all-over the Philippines.

This is Lance’s second life and he is simply making the best out of it.

Although Lance Raymundo couldn’t yet fully reveal his actual role in his latest film- Gemini (directed by maverick film director Ato Bautista)- he managed to say something more about this rather interesting new film of his, during  an early lunch treat with a blogger.

“The role was actually written for me by direk Ato”, Lance said while sipping his favorite Diet Coke drink during a lunch treat. “And I’m really flattered about it. The role was really for me. And it’s something I hadn’t done before.”

If Lance didn’t want to reveal his role, could we ask why? Could he take us for a brief look on his role?

“You see, direk Ato made me sign a contract not to reveal yet to the media my role here because it’s certainly the surprise factor in the film”, he answered while he continued to sip his Diet Coke. “Okay, okay… I will tell you a little about my role here. It’s like being back to my matinee kind of image. I need to look like a College student here with a wholesome, clean-cut appeal. That’s why I need to cut my hair short again and look cute. My role is really something new here. The film is a mysterious and suspenseful one. And to be honest, I really liked it a lot.”

Lance had just wrapped-up shooting the film. And he described it as “overwhelming”. Because he encountered one “ghostly appearance” of a boy during the shoot.

“I went to the C.R. to pee”, Lance recalled. “Then suddenly, I saw pictures of a boy hanging on a wall. The boy actually looked like me! And then, one old woman appeared and embraced me. She said- ‘You’ve come back!’ In a blink of an eye, the old woman disappeared! The hairs on my skin stood-up and I felt so dumbfounded. I will never forget that experience for the rest of my life!”

Soon, Lance realized that the old house they were shooting in was actually built during the late Spanish era. And the neighbors told him that a boy and an old woman actually lived there a long time ago, but they both disappeared!

Oh, my.

“Anyway, I am sure naman that they were not bad spirits, I felt they were good spirits naman“, Lance said in the end. “But whenever I remember and recall that boy on the picture frame and I see my pictures back when I was a child, I am certainly not wrong, we really look the same.”

Another case of “duality” in Lance Raymundo’s  life? We need not say more.

“mga alaala ng tag-ulan”: a very poetic approach to the art of looking at a very handsome face…

ImageAKIHIRO BLANCO: a very magnetic face

ImageImageImageImage

Just because I got so carried-away watching the movie Mga Alaala Ng Tag-Ulan, I already forgot the names of all the characters in the movie. What I simply remembered were the names of the stars in this film, because they exuded so much warmth and tenderness all-throughout the movie, far more outstanding than the characters they portrayed.

Let me excuse myself again, for using the word “I” in this film review/article of mine on the film. Because I could very well relate myself on the film- as if the handsome director of this film (no less than director Ato Bautista) exclusively made this film for me! (?) Ha-ha

As I watched the film, I felt like I was being “swayed-upon” or rocked-upon by an invisible hand that rocks a cradle when I was still a “baby”. The music and the rhythm of the film had a melancholic beat . . . and touch. Up to the very start, until its very precise ending, I was comforted by a great feeling of a poetic scramble within my very soul.

And I knew, it was the director’s intention to do so. And he succeeded.

It’s been more than half of my life since I saw another film like this one. The last one I felt like this was in the American musical movie All That Jazz, done in the year 1979 and directed by the legendary Hollywood film director Bob Fosse. I was barely in my teens then and I was at the very front of the cinema chair when I watched it. It swayed me back and forth like a little baby in a cradle. Now, it happened again… via this film- Mga Alaala Ng tag-Ulan.

I admired the versatility of this film director- Ato Bautista- in which he proved this time around, he could change his directing style for a film in a sudden abrupt way. He could change looks like a chameleon. He could change a feeling or two.

In his last movie Palitan (a film entry in last year’s Cinema One Filmfest), director Bautista applied a different technique. Which was, a realistic approach for a dark-themed movie (Palitan). Now, in Mga Alaala Ng tag-Ulan, he did able to please again one blogger-fan of his- ME. To the max.

What could be more beautiful than Poetry? Because Poems are Eternal. They linger forever like a song that comes from a heart. Like a beautiful vision of an ‘ecstatic’ woman or an ‘angelic’ dream of a very handsome young man. Poetry, like the movies, is a “glimpse” to Eternity.

I felt something oozing out of my innermost juices whenever I looked at the very magnetic and beautiful face of Mr. Akihiro Blanco, the young lead actor of this film. With his simple facial gestures and stares, with his boyish smiles and precise acting nuances via this film, this teen actor, we predict, is next in line to become the next Piolo Pascual and Dingdong Dantes of contemporary Philippine Cinema.

Plus the fact that Akihiro could really act so well in this film! As a matter of fact, he was a revelation! He carried the film all throughout. And he should have won the Best Actor award here for the recently-concluded Cine Filipino awards night.

Another great delight and “awe” when I watched this film was seeing actor Lance Raymundo in an entirely different kind of a personality. He did transform himself to become that character he portrayed, which was a very sacrificing way to do so for an actor of his fine caliber. In this film, it was not the “clean-cut” Lance that we saw, but a “man of the world”, which saw women as simply objects of sex and pleasure. And that’s the reason why Akihiro’s character in the film KILLED him. That kind of man is surely evil, we might say as we watched Lance dying and vomiting blood and Akihiro sitting there like an angel of “triumph”.

It was a very beautiful scene and both actors acted so fine!

Mr. Mon Confiado’s great presence in the film was truly felt. How fascinating it could be to watch an actor without any speaking lines (as he portrayed the character of Akihiro’s dad who suffered in silence and persecution from Akihiro’s mom in the film) but still, you could feel his overpowering “aura” and intensity in each scene. It was a subtlety in an acting style, but no actor could ever portray a hard role like this one- except Mon. With that, we’d want to bow our head to Mon when we see him again in person soon.

Mga Alaala Ng tag-Ulan is a story of a boy who’s far more better than a MAN. He fought hard to win his LOVE. He sacrificed everything just to please the one woman that touched his heart. But n the end, he failed. But his manhood won.

It was a test that came from LIFE itself. And only the rains could subside his feelings and be with his side in times of loneliness.

The woman leaves him, but the actress who portrayed that character of the woman in the film- Ms. Mocha Uson- would never, never leave an audience’s feeling of enchantment and simple beauty of an acting goodness.

Because via this film, Ms. Uson tremendously proved to everyone that she’s a great actress, after all.

And,

Forevermore.

“LANCE RAYMUNDO TALKS ABOUT DIREK ATO BAUTISTA, JUDO FIGHTING, INTERNALIZING ON CAMERA AND SHOWING-OFF HIS BUTT, AMONG OTHERS…”

A handsome chameleon, that must be Lance Raymundo…

His personality changes, his look varies, his appearance transforms…

A reinvention. A versatile man. Shifting from many different types of characters and selves- yes, that’s Lance Raymundo.

Over breakfast of chocolates, hot cocoa, garlic fried rice and grilled bangus fish- Lance took an hour-off from his hectic schedules to be with this blogger again. The morning sun is incredibly hot and penetrating- just the same way one could feel towards Lance by looking and gazing at his new rugged looks. Bearded, tanned, long-haired.

But sincerity was utmost felt. His eyes could kill.

Here’s our Q & A (Question & Answer) interview with Lance Raymundo:

SSSIP:

How’s your rapport with the people of “Alaala Ng Tag-Ulan”, the latest film you’re currently shooting, Lance?

LANCE:

Okay! It was so nice, Rob. It’s super-fun! I got no problems with them, they are all so good. With direk Ato Bautista, our director in the film, I can say now that he’s quite strict- but strict in a very pleasant way. Outside the camera, when we’re not on take, puro lokohan kami. We could joke around with him, laugh with him and treat him just as an odinary guy. But once the camera started rolling, automatic, the mood could change. Our respect to our director could be felt then to the maximum. He could illicit that kind of feeling that he’s still our director, kaya ang ganda ng flow ng work naming lahat. It’s really a pleasant experience for me.

SSSIP:

Can you barely describe to us now your character in the said film?

LANCE:

My character is due to develop. It’s like you’ll get to know my character in the said film gradually up to the last minute. That’s how awesome my character is in the film. Akihiro Blanco’s character in the said film looks up to me and adores me because I am the rugged type of a man there.

SSSIP:

There are ‘hot whispers’ circulating around that you’ll do some nudity and steamy lovescenes here with Mocha Uson. If ever, are you willing to show-off your butt in this film?

LANCE:

I guess the film is more of a family drama than ‘a sexual awakening type of film’. So I don’t think it’s going to be a HOT film as what other people are thinking. Those hot whispers are simply hot whispers, Rob. But if ever, wala namang kaso sa akin if I’ll show-off my butt. Haha. Especially if it’s Mocha, kahit na siguro hindi pa ako bayaran ng talent fee ko, just to have a hot scene with her is okay.

SSSIP:

Your now into Judo fighting na rin. We heard that this kind of sports entails a lot of physical exertion and mind-set. What can you say about judo, papa Lance?

LANCE:

I’m lucky to have a background in boxing, because it helped me a lot in my judo training now. Just like boxing, judo requires discipline, accuracy, precision. It’s more about making your enemy fall-off, and throwing! You see, Rob, what I learned in sports is, you can do anything under the sun basta ba ginusto mo. People can make wonders. People can achieve the impossible. Basta nasa puso mo ang ginagawa mo, basta determined ka, you won’t FAIL. It’s like conquering your fears.

SSSIP:

I do agree, Lance. Thank you.

LANCE:

Thanks, too, Rob.
