Dr. Jose Rizal’s teachings and messages for the Filipino people is still the most valuable strength for our country. It’s the still the most precious GEM to reckon with- messages that was implied through his two classic novels- Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Without those two novels, the Philippines could have been left UNGUIDED. Not knowing their true Filipino selves.
Stories, characters, symbolism, representations and anecdotes created by Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero, were so eternal, lasting, profound. And until now, those situations still EXIST. Continuing on with the present-day SOCIETY.
Through the play KANSER (a play with music), which is Gantimpala Theater Foundation’s longest-running play, and to date, also the longest-running play in Philippine Theater history, Rizal’s legacy, especially to the Filipino youth could be felt over and over again.
A lot of many respected theater performers have appeared and acted on this play- the likes of Tommy Abuel, Pen Medina, Grace Amilbangsa, Alan Paule, Cris Pastor, Joel Molina, Christine Joy Mangahis, to name a few.
And this year, a new round of actors/actresses- all respected on the theater scene- appears on this new version of KANSER. And we do feel, with their outright dedication and willingness to offer a part of themselves to breathe life anew to the said classic play, we felt we must pay TRIBUTE to them, in our own simple way.
And here it is. THE CAST OF THIS YEAR’S “KANSER” (a play with music). IN PICTURES!!!

It was a rainy morning but the sky was clear. And somehow, the rains gave one lonely writer a feeling of comfort, though, he never knew why. He felt competitive, wanting to challenge the rain and erase all those feelings of losses and pains. Or maybe, he simply wanted to start anew.
The heavy traffic that morning didn’t become a hindrance, either. The comfort he felt with the rain made him feel relaxed and tranquil- not the ‘panicky-type-of-feeling’ he had always felt in the past. He was on his way that day to meet a celebrity friend that would accompany him to the rehearsals of Gantimpala Theater Foundation’s upcoming new mild musical version of the longest-running play-KANSER.
The celebrity friend was no less than award-winning theater director Frannie Zamora, who was also so generous enough to treat him at a luxurious Korean-Japanese restaurant near the Broadway Centrum, complex area. The lunch was fabulous with laksa noodles, fresh vegetable lumpias, and more. Afterwards, they both proceeded to the venue of the rehearsals at the AFP theater.
Braving the very heavy traffic in that 12-noon time of day, the lonely writer felt redeemed upon reaching the rehearsal venue, and this time, newcomer Jansen Aguilar joined them as they met upon him at the gates of the AFP camp. At once, the tranquil feeling was transformed into something more professional this time, and no longer personal. Seeing those theater actors and actresses inside the rehearsal venue, all ready to get their works done, and the production staff/team so well-organized with their job system, nothing else would have mattered.
We saw all the names of the complete cast of the play written on a computerized paper and we copied all the names in our notes. Everything was written in paper, even the by-rules of the house theater group, the play’s scripts, and other detailed materials including the songs. With that, lesser tensions and pressures was eased by now.
All the performers were now holding their scripts, ready for the script-reading sessions and lines to be spoken by each. What a great feeling. Seeing all these creative artists in front of you, reading their lines and all, and further more reuniting with their hidden passions on the performing arts, it was, indeed, a good day to linger in.
As the words were spoken, the real “soul” emerged. It was, maybe, the soul of Dr. Jose Rizal himself- the creator of the book Noli Me Tangere as to which the play Kanser was adapted upon- so efficiently and truthfully. In those words spoken by the lines in the play by each of the cast, Dr. Rizal’s teachings and messages was again felt by the lonely writer. Words that spoke of freedom, of unity, of bravery.
And those words, yes, those words- were the very words that made one country rose up from the ashes and emerged as one independent nation that the Filipino youths of today were enjoying. Once again, we believed- that- “THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD”.
Through those words on the play’s script, we could imagine how beautiful this new mild musical version of KANSER is going to be. That the students and that the youths must know and watch anew. Relieve their own Filipino values and PRIDE.
For many years now, Gantimpala Theater Foundation had fought. They fought to preserve this “jewel” of a literary creation that a hero had written, that a genius had died for, that a co-Filipino had sacrificed for. Through the power of the performing arts, the ‘soul’ and the passion must be relieved over and over again- for the young to know and continue on with the LEGACY.
“Without any major sponsors backing us up, we continued fighting for our theater group to survive”, director Frannie Zamora said to the lonely writer before that writer left the venue of the rehearsals. “Sometimes, we felt like quitting. But once you see the students watching our plays and through their faces we saw anew the hope and true identity of us Filipinos, our energiescontinue to zest up. This year’s version of KANSER, I promise, is going to be a very beautiful one.”
The lonely writer moved on, as he left. He went down by the marble stairs of the theater’s facade and walked past the AFP camp. The rains had stopped somehow, but the skies were clearer.
On a clear day, you could see EVERYTHING.
And among the people who goes on living not just because of money or any material gains were the people who works for theater. It’s a mission that God never fails to see-
(as the words were written by robert manuguid silverio, on a moment when separate dimensions somehow fixed-in and stood still-amidst the ever-changing tides of ETERNITY).*

Sa ikatlong araw ng The Elites Acting & Modelling Workshop, tunay namang humanga at sumaya si Blogger SSSIP sa kanyang mga estudyante at workshop participants nu’ng araw na iyon. Very attentive at eager ang lahat.
And now, the most important thing that happened that day ay ang pagdalo ng tinitingalang direktor sa teatro (who recently won as Best Director for a Musical Play sa nakaraang Aliw Awards) na walang iba kundi si direk Franniel Zamora. Inimbita siya ni Blogger SSSIP na maging V.I.P. guest speaker nu’ng araw na iyon ng workshop. Ang gaganda ng mga sinabi at tinuro ni direk Fran sa mga estudyante nu’ng araw na iyon. He shared some words of wisdom, acting techniques and advices. Kaya naman ‘touched na touched” ang lahat sa mga sinabi ni direk Fran. At babalik ulit siya sa 4th day of Acting Workshop to give them some physical and acting exercises naman.
Salamat din kay Mr. Edwin DC, our friend from Work With me Photography at sa kasamahan niyang photographer din na si Maro Francia. Talaga namang very supportive sila sa naganap na workshop.
AND NOW WE CAN SAY, MAGPAPATULOY ANG THE ELITES ACTING & MODELLING WORKSHOP. WALANG MAKAPIPIGIL SA AMEN. HINDI KAMI MGA “PABEBE” NA TULAD NG IBA DYAN. NEED I SAY MORE, DAD MARTIN? GO, GO, GO, ELITES!!!

It’s a TV show with an advocacy. Paying tribute to people who had done something nice and good in their fields of work, in their communities, in the form of arts and the society. These extraordinary people speak about themselves in this award-winning TV talk show. They reveal their lives, their pains and sorrows and simple tasks to make this world a better place to live in.
And it’s been a one year of good telecast and successful TV ratings for the whole team and staff of “Personage”. Hosted by model-beauty queen Carla Lizardo, the show just celebrated their one year anniversary recently at Cravings restaurant in Katipunan Avenue, with some very important celebrity guests who had all appeared in their TV show.
Recently, “Personage” was nominated at Gandingan Awards for Gandingan ng Kababaihan together with its pretty host Carla Lizardo, the nominated episodes were about the Indie Film Actresses Mercedes Cabral and Irma Adlawan.
“Personage” also received Special Awards last March 26 at GADtimpala Awards for Media.
But last May 15, they’re the ones who gave awards to celebrities, on that very night of their first year anniversary. It’s the “Personage Katangi-tanging Pilipino Awardees”. The recepients were: Miss Mercedes Cabral, Irma Adlawan, Frederick Peralta, Brillante Mendoza and Ricky Lee.
Among the celebrities who attended that evening were Lance Raymundo, Ms. Tessie Lagman (who sang one song everybody that night), Mercedes Cabral, veteran writer Ricky Lee, fashion designer Frederick Peralta, manager-director Shandii Bacolod, theater actor JV Cruz, The Elites models, Mr. Martin Martin, PJ Aguilar and the boy singing group Freshmen, among others.
Photographer Vino Oriarte captured the full coverage of this great event. Photos below.
It was a great anniversary presentation. And to all the “Personage” team, More Power and More Luck!
The concept was TIME. The colors were RED and BLACK.
The time itself was telling a blogger of something different beyond his comprehension, as the colors lingered in his eyes in a vivid wonder of feelings and surprises. It was one of the most beautiful party events he had attended in years- THE 14TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PHILIPPINE STAGERS FOUNDATION.
Held at the newly-renovated Hotel Benilde Maison De La Salle in Estrada St., Malate, Manila- the performing artists- as we call them- the Stagers- shone like brilliant stars in the skies, headed by its handsome Artistic Director and Actor, Mr. Vince Tanada.
It was also a moment of triumph, hugs, cheers and camaraderie among all the staff and actors of PSF (Philippine Stagers Foundation) alongside with their families and friends, past and old Stagers (which was also sort of a reunion for all of them- the old and new Stagers) and the V.I.P. guests whom they consider very close friends and already a part of their FAMILY.
The moment Vince Tanada arrived at the venue hall of Hotel Benilde Maison De La Salle, the excitement ran high at once. He was so magnifying in his fabulous outfit that resembled Johnny Depp in his Chocolate factory film years back. And Vince exuded an aura of that “Johnny Depp mystique” in his outfit of red and black attire, and kisses and lips added a lot more attraction in his attire.
Guests embraced Vince at once, including his most trusted media adviser- Julio Cinco Nigado. On the lobby, you could see the other V.I.P. guests, namely: Oliver Oliveros of BroadwayWorld.Com, Ms. Connie Resurrecion- a former Board member of Aliw Awards Foundation, film enthusiast Arthur Cassanova, celebrity P.R.-Manager Dennis Sebastian, Manila Bulletin veteran columnist Ms. Crispina Belen, Manila Bulletin Managing Editor Jojo Panaligan, actress-U.P. student Trixie Dauz, film director Emmanuel dela Cruz, photographer Vino Oriarte, and others more.
V.I.P. guests who came-in a little later were radio icon Ms. Tessie Lagman-Balboa, Master film director Elwood Perez, movie columnist Nestor Cuartero, veteran movie writers like Mr. Amadis of Daily Inquirer, Dennis Adobas, Art Tapalla and Ricky Calderon of Enpress.
Close relatives of the Tanada family also mingled with the guests. And as “The Man” started speaking his “State of the Nation” speech, everybody listened. It was a very emotional speech for the man who moved heaven and earth to make PSF the top theater group in the country now, as he opened-up his courage to face all the criticisms on his theater group. Still, they are moving-on with greater tasks to educate and entertain the youths of this generation.
After the Opening Prayer, a very beautiful Invocation Video which showed the Stagers in an angelic setting, a blogger who was seated at Table Number One almost verged into tears. The music was “Heal Our Land”, and it was a very beautiful Invocation Video, masterfully created by PSF’s marketing man and one of the founders, Mr. Chris Hansen Lim.
The great event was hosted by PSF’s top leading lady- Ms. Adelle Ibarrietos-Lim, and she was such a very good event host of the night. In the first musical-dance number presentation, the Stagers danced and sang in Time’s greatest glory. A very well-choreographed number, executed by Mr. John Paul San Antonio (the choreographer and Stage Manager of PSF). In that number, they happily glorified TIME as their theater group reached its 14 years of existence that night of March 31, 2015.
Also on that night, PSF also accepted their BroadwayWorld Awards and Oliver Oliveros presented it to them. Meanwhile, one of the most emotional part was when Stagers Kenneth Posadas, JV Cruz and Gerald Magallanes bursted into big tears like kids as they accepted their awards as being Regular Stagers. It was so important for them, because they worked hard for years just to be able to get that worthwhile recognition. Fellow Stagers embraced them and they all cried onstage.
There was also a Mini Fashion number, as the past and present Stagers showed their skills in ramp modelling, alongside with kids of the Stagers- like Baby Spidey (son of Vince) and Baby Claire. In that mini-fashion number, Stagers OJ Bacor and Marina Esperida caught the blogger’s attention. They were the most beautiful Stagers of the night, and the Best-Dressed, too.
Ms. Anna Tanada-Bautista, who heads the Administrative tasks at PSF, was so vibrant and her presence, truly captivating- alongside with her sister, Ms. Elaine Tanada-Coronel. The parents of Vince- Mr. & Mrs. Emil Tanada were also present to give moral support to everyone, together with their youngest son- Cocoy Tanada.
But the most important highlight of the event was the teaser-presentation for PSF’s next theater season play- a musical-dance number for their next musical play- “POPE-PULAR”, which will deal with the life of Pope Francis and the five Modern-Day Heroes/Filipinos that intertwined alongside with the life of the Pope.
As the 14th anniversary cake was sliced and the cocktail drinks were suddenly closed and unavailable at the mobile bar on the latter part of the event, the spirits never went down. It only ran faster and climaxed higher.
Because an unbreakable spirit in an advent of fascinating Time will never cease to leave-
Much more, in a group of artistic souls and untiring flesh bodies…
All out to create an awe of love and kindness
