patrick adrian libao delivers a once-in-a-lifetime performance in “hari ang ari”, a revisited play for psf’s annual theater fest

patrick: bares his soul
patrick: bares his soul

Patrick Adrian Libao is LARGER THAN LIFE. His image as a theater actor is something everybody must reckon with. Because he never compromised commercialism with his acting craft. A genuine, solid and amazing son of the arts. His independence as an artist, marked with great professionalism and loyalty to the Philippine Stagers Foundation only solidified the ‘beauty and awe’ of the performing arts.
Yesterday late afternoon (April 23, 2016) at the PSF studio for the immersion plays of their annual theater festival, Patrick tantalized the audience, as he performed the male lead character (as Ruvan) in the one-act play “Hari Ng Ari”- baring his whole soul and body. Captivating every inch of his artistic but heavenly moves of portraying a dark character, yet, his portrayal offered fragility, sensuality and sympathy… Evil, yet lovable. How could one actor mix the cup of bitterness and smooth blend? But Patrick did.
Vince Tanada‘s direction and perfection in executing the scenes, aided with proper stage lighting and the minimalism of the stage design- only resulted in a unison of artistic wonder and great performances,- because again, Patrick’s two support in the cast- Vean Olmedo and Gerald Magallanes, managed to steal scenes and collided head-on with Patrick’s magnificence in acting.
The writer of this play (and he knows who he is), created a fine but short masterpiece. And the old Japanese texture of absurdity and violence was again seen in a deeper but marvelous manner.
Cast out the devilish tone of the play and struggle harder to breathe-in as you look upon the very graphic sex scenes and frontal nudity- the grayer your life could have been, the brownish the cupcake that swallowed your whole soul must begin.
Got the meaning?
Kudos to all the people behind this one-act play. It’s truly wonderful.
