Let’s talk about the “mood”, the authenticity of feelings revealed, the texture, the VISION.
Now, let’s stare and look at the other details- the universal message, the subtle lighting design, the music, the stage design- which all comprehended with the TOTALITY of one man’s ACCURACY AND TOUCH in stage direction.
Among others, it’s the “genuineness” of his pure intentions, the everlasting effect and “slap” on the one who’s watching the theatrical production being presented on stage.
These and all, were the ones that made all the fascination and the wonders we felt when we watched Kanser @35: The Musical last year.
The direction of Franniel Zamora was truly great. He had this “Midas Touch” of transforming every scene into a “gold-like picture of frames in living colors”. Especially that scene in which, Crisostomo Ibarra, alongside with Elias were rowing a boat on a river as they speak about a nation’s future and their respective beliefs on how to continue fighting for their fellow Filipinos. That scene alone, made us believe that direk Franniel had created a modern classic of a musical play.
Second to that scene was the finale scene. Wherein all the characters spoke and sang of their ashes being spread all-over the LAND. So that the passion and spirit for Nationalism would continue to live-on.
That finale scene made us cry. It stabbed our heart more deeper and penetrating. Just like we felt “being stabbed”, too, with the earlier scenes- because it always taught us something and made us feel guilty of the different kind of notion we have now for living in our beloved Philippines.
We have almost forgotten all those values and proper Filipino ethics that Dr. Jose Rizal have taught us. Not until we saw again direk Franniel’s version of Noli Me Tangere, via his musical play Kanser @35.
Because of his concise and truly magnificent directing style, Rizal’s everlasting message came alive.
And that’s how fascinating direk Franniel’s style of directing a play, was.
No wonder, he won the Best Director for a Musical Play at the Aliw Awards late last year.
A new modern classic form of ART was born.
More performances for Kanser @35, PLEASE.
