Ansel Elgort (born March 14, 1994) is an American actor, music producer, and DJ under the name “Ansølo”. As a film actor, he is known for playing Tommy Ross in Carrie (2013), Caleb Prior in Divergent (2014) and Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars (2014).

Early life

Elgort was born in New York City. His parents are Arthur Elgort, a fashion photographer who has worked extensively for Vogue for over thirty years, and Grethe Barrett Holby, an opera director. His father is of Russian Jewish descent, and his mother is of English, German, andNorwegian ancestry. His maternal grandmother, Aase-Grethe, was in the Norwegian resistance during World War II, and saved Norwegian Jewish children by moving them into neutral Sweden; because of these activities, she was imprisoned in a concentration camp.

Elgort has two older siblings, Warren, a film editor, and Sophie, a photographer. At the age of nine, his mother took him to try out for School of American Ballet. He attended The Professional Performing Arts School, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and Stagedoor Manor summer camp. Elgort started taking acting classes at the age of twelve and starred in his high school’s productions of Guys and Dolls and Hairspray.

Career

Acting

Elgort’s acting career began through professional stage acting, in Regrets, by Matt Charman. His film debut was a secondary role in the 2013 remake of Carrie. His first highly publicized role was in Divergent as Caleb, the brother of Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley). The film, based on a popular young adult novel by Veronica Roth, was released on March 21, 2014.

In May 2013, immediately after the filming of Divergent was completed, it was announced that Elgort would play Augustus Waters in the film adaptation of John Green’s novel The Fault in Our Stars, opposite Woodley who would play Hazel Grace Lancaster. The film followed the story of Hazel, a teenage cancer patient, who is forced by her parents to attend a support group, where she subsequently meets and falls in love with Waters, an ex-basketball player and amputee. The film, directed by Josh Boone, was released on June 6, 2014. Elgort next co-starred in the comedy film Men, Women & Children, directed by Jason Reitman and released in October 2014.

Elgort will reprise his role as Caleb Prior in Insurgent, the second film of the book series Divergent. The film has a scheduled release date of March 20, 2015. On June 23, 2014, Deadlineannounced that Elgort had been cast in the titular role in Van Cliburn. Based on the biography by Howard Reich, the film will depict Van Cliburn’s rise to fame in 1958 when, in the midst of theCold War, Cliburn won the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in piano – an extraordinary event, since Cliburn was from the USA. The adaptation will be produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, who also produced The Fault in our Stars.

Elgort has signed to play the lead, Addison Schacht, in the book adaptation The November Criminals with Chloë Grace Moretz.

Elgort is represented by CAA and Brookside Artist Management’s Emily Gerson Saines.

Music

Under the name “Ansølo”, Elgort created a SoundCloud account to publish electronic dance music, and he has remixed songs such as “Born to Die” by Lana del Rey. In a livestream in February 2014 he stated he had signed a record deal with Tom Staar’s new label Staar Traxx.

His first record “Unite” was released on April 21, 2014, and May 5, 2014 on iTunes. His second record, “Totem”, was released July 21 on Beatport and iTunes.

Personal life

Elgort is dating Violetta Komyshan, his high school sweetheart, since 2012. The couple broke up in August 2014 primarily due to the actor’s burgeoning career and hectic schedule but reconciled after five months of split.

Mimi Juareza, the much-acclaimed Best Actor in Cinemalaya 2013 for the movie Quick Change, also a Gawad Urian and PMPC Star Awards nominee, had a nice interview on camera for the top-rating TV talk show o PTV-4- Personage

The guest appearance highlighted his achievements as an actor, his personal dreams, struggles as a transgender-LGBT, and his very memorable experience of meeting his idol- Superstar Nora Aunor when he handed her the trophy last year as Cinemalaya 2014’s Best Actress.

Mimi wowed the staff of Personage, as she graciously answered the interview questions of Yen Quiling, who acted in behalf of Ms. Carla Lizardo (who got hospitalized that day due to an ear infection).

“I feel so happy to be a guest of this show”, Mimi said to a blogger. “It’s been two years now since I won my Best Actor trophy and I feel flattered that people still recognize up to this time my first major achievement as an actor. It makes me more feeling determined now to further my craft as an artist.”

Mimi is also an ‘ideal’ LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals & Transgenders). A good role model to everyone that being a member of LGBT community is not a hindrance to accomplish greater things in life. He is also an ardent Catholic, deeply religious and strong in faith to God.

The TV show Personage (which airs every Thursdays, 8 p.m. on PTV-4) features extraordinary people whom all have given and contributed a part of themselves for the betterment of a society. The show’s host is Carla Lizardo.

“This world can be a better place if we all do something good for everyone”, Mimi said after her TV taping. “I won’t stop just because I already have now a Best Actor award. It only pushes me harder to do a lot more things.”

You’re pretty right, Mimi.

sa nakalipas niyang valentine concert, heto ang sabi ni gerald santos: “It was a great experience!”

ALEX4 ALEX5 ALEX6

a friend that stayed at Gerald Santos' valentine concert. just look everywhere.
a friend that stayed at Gerald Santos’ valentine concert. just look everywhere.

Feeling ng isang blogger, sosyal na sosyal siya habang very relaxed siyang nakaupo sa chair ng “tables-for-two” ng Serendipity Lounge sa may Discovery Suites, Ortigas, Manadaluyong City. Hinihintay niya ang manager ni Gerald Santos para personal na iabot sa kanya ang ticket sa gabing iyon ng very special Valentine concert ni Gerald entitled “All Of Me” sa mismong venue na iyon. Isang oras na lamang ay magsisimula na ang konsiyerto, and very well-organized ang nasabing event. Napakagalang at efficient ng mga staff involved sa production and everything went well without any hassles at all.

It’s a very expensive ticket worth 3, 700 Php. kasi may kasamang dinner ang nasabing concert.

At bakit?

“It’s a great experience!”, mabilis na sagot ni Gerald. “Sobrang happy ko po, tito Robert. First time kong ma-experience ang isang ganitong special concert na ang set-up ay very intimate, very cozy. Ibang-iba po ang pakiramdam ko ngayon. Kaya salamat po sa lahat ng mga nanood at napuno ko itong Serendipity Lounge. Sobrang ina-appreciate ko ang pagpunta ninyong lahat.”

Sabi pa ni Gerald, one month lang ang naging preparation nila sa special Valentine concert na ito.

“January na nu’ng mag-offer sa amin itong Serendipity Lounge ng Discovery Suites to have a concert here”, anya pa.

“I offer this concert to the God almighty”, pagtatapos na sabi ni Gerald. “Next is my family. At sa lahat ng mga nagmamahal sa akin.”

Sa darating na June 13, ayon sa manager ni Gerald na si Mr. Cocoy Ramilo, magkakaroon si Gerald ng major concert sa PICC Plenary Hall. Gerald is also set to do a European tour by the month of May.

the moon river and gerald santos … (and a very wonderful night at his valentine concert at the serendipity lounge…)

When a soul lingers, he journeys to places. Sometimes, looking for answers. Sometimes, just plainly drifting by- restlessly, swayed by the winds or the waves of the sea.

But a soul prefers, most of the times, to be with the people he loves. As to where they are, he chooses to be there. Unseen or not, he knows he can be felt.. by gushes of winds or embraces on a cold, cold night….

The soul lingers, too, without any expectations or assuming of wants and needs. The soul is simply happy to be there. Maybe, he had done something great and good for them, but he doesn’t really know it. After all, again, he’s just happy to be there.

He just sees things, but void of existence. He just loves all kinds of loves, but lacking of reassurances and care. He just hangs around there, until answers are explored and memories are cherished forevermore.

There’s a soul that lingered one night, at Gerald Santos’ Valentine Concert last February 13 at the Serendipity Lounge of Discovery Suites in Mandaluyong. It ‘s a soul that cared to love genuinely. That protected and healed the heart of some ONE…

Yes, he was there. Maybe standing beside the cozy seats and ‘tables for two’ of the Serendipity Lounge. Maybe he knew, it’s going to be a great concert, after all.

Because he knew, it was his friend’s friend singing the songs of love. With messages only two people “in bond” could comprehend and treasure.

Yes, it was Mr. Gerald Santos singing the songs of love.

How many songs did Gerald sing that night? More or less 25 songs in all. And it was all too wonderful. And in every song he sang, he revealed some trivias, or some unknown history and facts about the song. Gerald was so pleasant in telling it through his brief spiels and breaks. The little man has indeed grown-up.

When Gerald sang the song “My Funny Valentine”, it was all too powerful. A better rendition than Frank Sinatra and Michael Bubble. He was so passionate, feeling the every lyrics of the song, with a kind of voice that astounded the qualms of eternity.

He also sang a couple of Lionel Richie songs- “Truly” and “Hello” and exploded a wide variety of emotions.

But one of the most grandeur moment was when Gerald revealed to everyone in his classy audience that night- that for him, the greatest female singer that ever lived was no less than Whitney Houston. After that, he sang the song “I will Always Love You” to the great delight of the female ones in the audience.

Then, more songs came after: “Ewan“, “Till My Heartaches End”, “Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Mahal Ko“, “Endless Love”, “Save The Last Dance For Me”, “Sway”, “When I Fall In Love”.

Gerald proved his versatility as a singer to the max. He’s not just a balladeer or a Prince of Ballad, he is a rocker, a Pop singer, a classical singer, a jazzy singer, you name it, Gerald could be it.

Even at the opening number when Gerald sang the song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “Desperado” (both old songs, but very “rocky” in beat), Gerald’s voice shifted from a soft touch to a hard rocker. Fascinating, indeed.

But the love songs were the most spectacular of all. Gerald sang them n the last stages of his repertoire. At a time when many were already sleepy to feel anew the art of appreciating and loving…

“Portrait of My Love”, “It’s Impossible”, “Where Do I Begin?”, “Always On My Mind”, “Ikaw“, “Paano“, “Moon River”, and finally, “All Of Me” (also the title of Gerald’s Valentine concert that night).

Powerful. All too powerful.

And a soul lingered on.

Some ONE was at the verge of crying. He simply hid it….

Seeing a friend, from a distance, that showed all his might and power- and transcended into a greater form as an artist- was indeed a magical feeling.

And it was all the ONE ever wanted. Nothing more, nothing less.

The soul and that some ONE went into the dressing room of the artist right after the concert. And the ONE said:

“I know you have resentments about me. I have done some mistakes and non-appearances… I have loved other people… But this is one thing I want you to know- I will always love you forever.”

And the artist felt touched by the words. He embraced his “friends”.

As always…

AND FOREVER.
