A blogger once had a chat interview with the leading lady of Vince Tanada in the play “Filipinas: 1941”, in person of no less than Ms. Adelle Ibarrientos-Lim- the low key, subdued and simple pretty female Stager.

But since the interview went deeper into the play “Filipinas: 1941”, as Adelle talked more about the story of the play and the scenes sorrounding it, the chat interview got prolonged. Instead, the blogger thought more of writing something else about Adelle. He thought of reviewing her acting performance in the latest critically-acclaimed new play of Philippine Stagers Foundation.

She could really be the ANGEL in the said play. An angel that guided, that loved, that showed concern… and brought luck.

Adelle’s performance (as Sofia, the novice nun who became an angel in the play and deeply in love with the character of Felipe, portrayed by Vince Tanada) was mystifying, deep and penetrating. She was so subdued in most of the scenes, but her strong presence was truly felt. She didn’t try to grab the attention away from her co-actors, but even at the background, the ANGEL was heavenly, self-sacrificing and uniquely wonderful.

In one scene with Vince Tanada, as she tried to strengthen-up his great love’s spirit and morale when strucked by great calamity and tragedy, Sofia was overwhelming. She was also so good at the finale scene of the play, when she and Vince finally met in heaven. Dressed in a very beautiful white gown, Adelle was truly angelic and her singing and acting prowess truly shone bright.

Thanks for a very convincing performance, Ms. Adelle Lim. Portraying an angel could be hard and challenging. But the subtlety and in-born talent of a truly great actress could give justice into it with a great deal of satisfaction.

And the angels in heaven smiles again.
