“New musicals to premiere in Gantimpala Theater’s 37th Theater Season”
“New Filipino musicals will premiere this 37th season of Gantimpala Theater,” announces Joel Lamangan, Artistic Director.
Coming alive on the Gantimpala stage are Sandosenang Sapatos, based on the children’s book written by Dr. Luis P. Gatmaitan, with book and libretto by Jose Jeffrey Camañag, music by Jesse Lucas; The Little Prince, based on the parable of Antoine de Saint-Exupery, book, libretto and direction by Jose Jeffrey Camañag and a National Artist Production Series, based on an iconic motion picture drama by a much revered film master, with Lamangan as director.
Sangdosenang Sapatos is about Karina, a young shoemaker’s daughter who has a sister named Susie, a physically challenged kid, born without feet. The musical showcases the many challenges that beleaguer a family with a physically challenged member and how their love for each other strengthens them.
The Little Prince is a musical for children that tell the story of a pilot, who meets the child monarch in the desert. He enthralls him with enchanting stories about the planet where he lives with three volcanoes, a haughty flower, a scheming fox, the other planets and their rulers, and his fight with the bad seeds.
Lamangan adds, “As part of our commitment to present entertaining, quality, and educational plays, and letting more people appreciate and learn from our rich, cultural and literary heritage, we continue to present the Four Classics, the komedya staging of Florante at Laura, a more dramatic Noli Me Tangere, an Ibong Adarna more faithful to its corrido origins and a riveting retelling of El Filibusterismo.”
“The National Artist Production series will cap our season with an exclamation point. Jose Victor Torres is currently working on the book and libretto,” Artistic Director Joel Lamangan ends.
