why “bonifacio: isang sarsuwela” is the most succesful play this year!

The play teaches the young to feel anew their sense of “nationalism”…

It focuses on the heart, rather than the mind…

It instills good moral values, with insertions of naughty and humorous jokes that delights the students…

It’s greatly acted-upon by a great cast ensemble, composed mostly of young theater actors, under the magical guidance of Atty. Vince Tanada…

It chronicles the lives of “real Filipino” heroes during the time of the Katipuneros

To date, it has gotten more than 250 plus performances in a span of five months, and more performances to come!

VINCE TANADA’s BONIFACIO: ISANG SARSUWELA!

“And I want to thank everybody for supporting our play- this play that we’ve worked so hard for”, Vince Tanada once told a blogger. “It’s blood, sweat and tears that we all invested here. We sacrificed a lot- depriving our very own families in spending time with them, giving so much of ourselves and dedication, and, battling all the odds. I am so happy that the people loved our play so much, especially the students.”

The production and costume design of the play Bonifacio: Isang Sarsuwela was the most impressive of all. It added an all-out “gloss” all throughout the play. But Vince Tanada’s direction and the way he wrote the play was the most heartfelt. With the many heavy highlight scenes, he managed not to let go of the “heart”, and that’s quite remarkable for a historical play like this.

It made us cry, it made us laugh, it made us feel horrible with all the violence and the blood…

Yet, it made us feel more sensitive to the true “soul” of a Filipino man-

That, no matter how you lose, but as long as you keep on fighting for your beloved country, the sense of the Filipino humility and pride will forever be yours.

BONIFACIO: ISANG SARSUWELA, the most succesful play this year.

And more performances to come.

She was the first and the most popular Filipina ever to win the Miss Universe crown, but her greatest achievement didn’t end there. Ms. Gloria Diaz, one of the most respected movie actresses in the Philippines, had done a great deal of contribution to the cinematic arts.

Last night (November 10, 2013), at the Trinoma mall, her great beauty shone so bright as she graced the opening night cocktails that higlighted the showing of her classic film- Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon? – of Cinema One Originals independent film festival.

Ms. Diaz wore a white but a very simple and elegant casual dress- and her smiles, mixed with her great poise sent a feeling of ‘aaaaahhhhs and wowwwws’ at the audience, especially to a group of media press people exclusively invited for the event.

She didn’t mingle much at the cocktails area, though. She was only seen by the majority inside the cinema house as she got ready to watch her classic film- which she starred with Christopher de Leon and Eddie Garcia in the year 1976. The film was directed by National Artist for Cinema, Mr. Eddie Romero (R.I.P.), and many dubbed this film as “the greatest and the ‘most Filipino of all’ film”.

gloria: eternally beautiful!

“She seemed so ageless”, Mr. Justin Mata, a media blogger at Push.Com whispered to a fellow blogger. “And her beauty is eternal.”

In Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon, Diaz played the role of Diding,  a zarzuela actress who fell in love with Kulas (portrayed by Christopher de Leon in the movie) at the turn of the century in Old Filipiniana ‘time wheel’.

The said classic Filipino film was greatly and wonderfully restored by the people behind Cinema One Originals. Kudos!

This film was so special in the heart of one blogger who was there that night, because he first saw this film when he was nine years old, together with his mom.

And it was the very first Filipino film he saw inside a CINEMA.
