“The Ultimate Tribute for AJ Perez”

I remember the first time I saw AJ Perez’s photo, now one of his most famous and iconic; he was in his sharp black tuxedo jacket and tie, standing in front of the “Star Magic” backdrop. The photo conveyed an important time in this young man’s life. I was captivated by his face, handsome and angelic that had a contagious smile; which automatically placed a big grin on my face, like a proud parent at the momentous event being celebrated. The smile suddenly turned into a frown and tears welled in my eyes making it difficult to see that bright smile of his. My eyes were on the headline, reporting of his untimely passing.

This article was the first of many I read and followed, hours, days and months after AJ’s passing. As a mother and author that motivate young adults, I was touched and inspired by his story. I had to know what made him deserving of the accolades being bestowed upon him. It is traditional that, when someone passes away, nice things are said in memory of them. However, I sensed something special and different about AJ Perez. I had a desire to know more about him. Perhaps I could learn things from him I can inform other young adults, on how to be good people and live their lives with purpose and intent.

Unanimously, family, friends and colleagues all said in interviews and articles, that AJ was a wonderful person on the inside.  He deeply loved and cared for his parents, brother and girlfriend. With his family members, friends, teammates and colleagues, he was very respectful, considerate, and kind. Although he had so much going for himself: great looks, intelligence, athletic, a great career rising, AJ was very humble and down to earth. Not only did he look like the wonderful “boy next door,” AJ was real and great like the wonderful “boy next door.”

Reminiscent of many of his fans and supporters’ sentiments, existing and new, I wanted the story of his passing to be a bad dream, for it not to be true. He was a great person, with “so much to live for,” he cannot be taken away just like that. The thought of his smile not being part of everyday television, live studio shows and movies was just unthinkable, and for many, even unbearable.

Luckily for family, friends, fans and supporters, we live in the age of great technology, allowing us to have access to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the internet in general. Through these various mediums people share their creative thoughts, feelings, photos and videos of AJ, allowing him to remain close in our hearts today. YouTube and television/movie service sites allow us to re-visit yester-years when AJ made us laugh, cry and fall in love with him when he starred as Egay, Josh Smith, Tyler, Wave, Harold, Bayani, Rico, Vince and Gary, to name a few of his characters; and of course two of his greatest and final performances as Dido and Edgar.

Other ways these various mediums allow AJ to remain close in our hearts are through the fan sites, video tributes and blogs. When I first “LIKEd” the fan page “AJ Perez,” he had over fifty-eight thousand fans and supporters following him. As of today, he has slightly over four hundred twenty-one thousand fans and supporters continuing to stay connected with AJ. In addition to AJ’s official fan club, the “Ultimate Ajsters Clan,” there are numerous fan sites and groups that are created on Facebook. To name a few, there is the Ultimate AJ Perez Kami!, AJ’s Rangers, AJSTERS forever, Uac Ajsters Page, Aj Perez, Kuya Aj Perez, Loveyousomuch Steph AJ, Ajren Young Perez, Aj Perez (Antonello Joseph), AJ’s Magic Knights, Condolence for AJ Perez, Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez and AJ Sarte Perez.

On Twitter, AJ’s presence has been dominantly prevalent as well. Loyal fans and supporters were trending AJ, not only in the Philippines, but also worldwide, during his passing, the Maalaala Mo Kaya’s (MMK) Tsinelas original telecast and replay, his eighteenth birthday, his first death anniversary and most recently, during ASAP’s celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Star Magic.

Entertainment blogger, Robert Manuguid Silverio, is a big fan and supporter of AJ. He has written many articles and poetry in memory of AJ. He has also inspired young bloggers in support of AJ in Mark Jhames Pilapil, Ymman Jake Merdegia Biaco, Joel Quero, Annieka Fernando, and Jayvee Valeriano, to name a few.

There are also fans that pay tribute in their own special ways on Facebook, Twitter and privately in their lives. Trisha Nicole-Precious Diaz has written numerous poems. Gervic Maynigo and Arvin Barretto Casimiro, are both inspired by AJ’s life and works with youth groups to encourage and motivate tweens and teens. Jay Marc Anthony regularly pays respect by visiting AJ at Manila Memorial Park. Nikko Kabiling Evaristo, Minmin Plaza, Anthony Thony Fernandez, Christian Dave Ortega and Cielo Frias use AJ’s pictures as their Facebook timeline photos. Harred Rioferio shares past tweets and photos of AJ. Jay Ar Adra and Kathleen Kaye Sone are a few that are anxiously anticipating the best tribute yet in memory of AJ, his book.

AJ’s ultimate tribute is currently a work in progress, with the utmost love and dedication behind it. It is the book being co-written by his beloved mother, Ma Victoria Sarte Perez. In the last fifteen months, Mrs. Perez, along with Mr. Perez and Gello, AJ’s younger brother, had to learn how to move on in life without AJ, although keeping him close in spirit to guide them and make them strong to cope with their life’s biggest challenge. With this profound strength they never knew existed within them, it is Mrs. Perez’s goal, along with Mr. Perez and Gello, to share with families of fans and supporters of AJ’s, who may have experienced a similar loss of a loved one, especially that of a child, coping skills they have learned to ease the pain and to begin life anew as a productive and functioning family once again. In this book, yet to be titled, Mrs. Perez also lovingly reflects back to the early years when AJ was born and events leading up to his final days. The book, still in the early writing stages, already has interesting facts and events being written with much pride, love and affection. There are definitely special moments that will bring you to tears – of joy, and lift your spirits.

Many, view AJ’s untimely passing as a tragedy, however, for AJ’s family, they are grateful for the eighteen precious years they had with him. They are also grateful for AJ’s many fans and supporters who continue to creatively show their love and dedication for him through the various tributes. They very much appreciate every poetry, dedicated fan pages, trending on Twitter, and the inspiring and beautiful videos in memory of their AJ. They are also beholden to the positive and great response received from the announcement of the upcoming book, which promises to be a tribute pact full of nostalgic memories, lessons learned and inspiration to be treasured of a special son, brother, friend and idol, AJ Perez.

HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY (on the first weekend of august)!!…’coz friends are the ones that sees us through!

“Both Sides Now” is the 1st single off Megastar Sharon Cuneta’s multi-platinum CD, “When I Love” under her own label Mega Music. The Megastar’s take  and cover on the Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell classic has brought new life to the song. It was eventually used as the theme of her movie “Magkapatid” (by Star Cinema Productions) a few years back, which gave the Megastar another Best Actress honor.

sharon sings “both sides now”… a song of friendship.

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow everyone
So many things I could have done
But clouds got in my way

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s cloud’s illusions
I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and ferries wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way
But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em laughing when you go
And if you care don’t let them know
Don’t give yourself away

I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions
I recall
I really don’t know love at all

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions
I recall
I really don’t know life at all

from sip & sip 🙂

This song  “Both Sides Now” suits best for the word FRIENDSHIP. On the first weekend of August, the world will celebrate HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY. Hoping we’ll all take care of our friends, ‘coz they sees us through. They never leave…

Friends are like families, too. They will love us FOREVER!

thank you, for giving my life back to me…. mr. rainbow!

in those nights… for seven long weeks…

i longed to be healed.

alone, confused, in pain…

someone told me- “it could be cancer already. it’s not healing for quite sometime now”.

and i got nervous.

it couldn’t be… it shouldn’t be…

and thanks God, on the seventh week, i was assured

MY FOOT SPRAIN was healed…

thank you, mr. rainbow.

i knew you were there- when you showed the rainbow again to me on the SECOND TIME.

i knew.

you were reassuring me of something.

you were telling me of something….

thank you, mr. rainbow.

i saw you in my dreams…

as a little boy looking for something under my bed…

when i woke up,

i saw my heavy leather sandals.

and i suddenly knew.

it’s been the one that’s causing more stress on my foot sprain…

it was the culprit.

now, i really do believe in rainbows.

i felt a presence, a good unburdening presence…

every night,

every time.

you gave my life back to me, mr. rainbow.

and i did know,

and i  will always thank you.

JM de Guzman: Cinemalaya role already an award

Posted at 07/20/2012 1:12 AM | Updated as of 07/20/2012 2:13 PM

MANILA, Philippines — Actor JM de Guzman feels he has already won an award even before the opening of this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent FIlm Festival.

De Guzman, who topbills Cinemalaya entry “Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino,” said he is not expecting to be recognized with an award at the annual filmfest. According to him, being the titular character in the film is already an award in itself.

“Hindi po ako nage-expect ng award, pero I’m very proud of this movie. I’m very proud na ako ‘yung kinuhang Intoy Syokoy. ‘Pag napanood niyo po, the best. ‘Yun na ‘yung award sa’kin. Fulfilled na ako na marami akong natutunan,” de Guzman told reporters during a press conference for the film on Thursday.

The young actor, who is starring in a Cinemalaya film for a fourth time in a row, said being part of independent films has helped him improve as an actor. Compared to his earlier years in the entertainment industry, de Guzman said he has also become more professional.

“Hindi lang sa pagpapahusay kundi kung paano magtrabaho — mas patient, mas grateful na binibigyan parin ako ng shows. Mas focused ako ngayon. Nako-compare ko kung paano ako magtrabaho noon. Before, nahahaluan ko pa ng enjoy, party-party,” de Guzman said.

Mainstream vs indie

Having made his supporting role debut in ABS-CBN series “The Substitute Bride” in 2010, de Guzman now topbills his own afternoon soap opera, “Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto.”

De Guzman enjoys the best of both worlds — indie films and mainstream starrers — but the actor admitted that the former leaves more room to be more experimental, to “make mistakes.”

“Dito mas prone ka to make mistakes, kasi sa TV parang limitado nalang tayo, ‘yung pwede nating gawin. So dito, pwedeng magkalat, and at the same time you learn from it,” de Guzman said.

In his latest indie film “Intoy Syokoy,” directed by Lem Lorca, de Guzman portrays the titular character — a “tahong” diver who falls in love with a prostitute.

“Makikita dito kung paano pinaglaban ng isang mananahong na diver ‘yung love niya na prostiute na babae. Simple na love story, pero dito mararamdaman kung paano talaga ‘yung pagmamahal na ‘yun,” de Guzman said.

Also starring LJ Reyes, Joross Gamboa, Arnold Reyes and Kenneth Salva, “Intoy Syokoy” is part of the New Breed Full Length category of Cinemalaya.

Now on its eighth year, Cinemalaya will premiere 25 film entries starting July 20-29 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Ayala Cinemas in Greenbelt Makati and Trinoma Quezon City.

ONE DIRECTION: they came all so sudden, with a blast!
“they all look so gorgeous, isn’t it, young people?”

“One Direction”

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from One direction)

One Direction are a British-Irish boy band consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They signed to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records after being formed and placing third in the seventh series of British television music competition The X Factor. They later signed in North America to Columbia Records.
In November 2011, One Direction released their debut album Up All Night, which became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of 2011. In 2012, it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making One Direction the first UK group in U.S. chart history to debut at number one with their first album. Up All Night spawned the Official UK Singles Chart top ten singles — “What Makes You Beautiful”, “Gotta Be You”, and “One Thing”. In 2012, “What Makes You Beautiful” won the BRIT Award for Best British Single. One Direction supported the album with their Up All Night Tour. They have started recording their second studio album, due for release in late 2012. One Direction’s world tour is set for 2013, with tickets grossing $15.7 million for their Australian and New Zealand dates.
One Direction have been described as sparking a resurgence in the boy band concept, and of forming part of a new “British Invasion” in the United States. As of June 2012, according to Nick Gatfield, the chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, One Direction represent a $50 million business empire. Their work has earned them awards and nominations. One Direction have supported various charities and foundations, and have commercial endorsements with Pokémon, Nokia, HarperCollins and Hasbro. They also appeared as themselves in the iCarly episode “iGo One Direction” (2012).

the young and the proud: ONE DIRECTION.

2012: Upcoming second studio album and world tour
In May 2012, One Direction began recording their second studio album in Stockholm, Sweden. In April 2012, One Direction disclosed that they wanted to contribute more to the songwriting for their second album, Styles stating, “we’re always writing on the road and in hotels and airports. We don’t ever want our music to sound like a 40-year-old man in an office has written it and given it to us to perform.” The album is set for release in late 2012.
One Direction are due to headline at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on 3 December 2012. One Direction is set to embark on their second headlining concert tour, the 2013 World Tour, in February 2013. The concert tour thus far consists of 101 shows in the UK, Ireland, North America and Australasia. In the UK and Ireland, ticket sales reached 300,000 within a day of release, which included a six date sell out at London’s The O2 Arena. In North America, the group added additional shows due to “overwhelming demand”. In Australian and New Zealand markets, tickets grossed US$15.7 million, with all 190,000 tickets being sold for eighteen shows to be held in Australia and New Zealand.

Neil McCormick from The Daily Telegraph published an article on the nature of One Direction’s success in North America, noting that Americans had left a gap in the market, writing that it took the prominence of Justin Bieber to demonstrate that there was still a market for “clean cut, wholesome, middle class parent friendly pop: cute boys advocating puppy love. And what could be better than one cute boy, if not five?”.One Direction have been described as sparking the resurgence in the boy band concept, and as forming part of a new “British Invasion” in the United States. Bill Werde, a representative of Billboard magazine commented. “There’s a lot of possibility here, there’s a lot of upside, that level of talent with those kinds of looks, it’s really a perfect storm for a massive, massive successful phenomenon.”

Sonny Takhar, the managing director of Syco Records, attributes the breakthrough to the power of social media. “Sometimes you feel the song’s the star, but it’s not like that here – it’s the act,” he says. “It’s a real moment. Social media has become the new radio, it’s never broken an act globally like this before.”Will Bloomfield, the group’s manager, added, “These guys live online, and so do their fans.” Their management employs a social media team and the members all tweet themselves, “which helps create the illusion that they couldn’t be any closer to their fans.” One Direction’s Twitter account had amassed 5 million followers as of July 2012, with the account gaining followers at an average of 20,000 per day. Each member is known for their feature; Horan is “the cute one”, Malik is “the quiet and mysterious one”, Payne is “the sensible one”, Styles is “the charming one” and Tomlinson is “the funny one”.Horan commented on One Direction as a boy band, saying: “People think that a boy band is air-grabs and [being] dressed in all one colour. We’re boys in a band. We’re trying to do something different from what people would think is the typical kind of boy band. We’re trying to do different kinds of music and we’re just trying to be ourselves, not squeaky clean.”Leah Collins writing for the National Post remarked that One Direction had succeeded on the latter front. She writes, “For the most part, that just means the group presents themselves as typical, goofy and uncensored teenage boys — posting jokey YouTube videos, for instance, or boozing at awards shows.” Writing for The Observer, Kitty Empire opined, “Dance routines are fundamental to the boy band – or at least, to 90s Take That and late-00s JLS. One Direction fulfil a great many boy band prerequisites (looks, soppy lyrics, tune-grasp, fame-lust) but their lack of routines points to the subtle digressions afoot here.” Jon Caramanica from The New York Times noted, “The story of boy bands is inevitably the story of disbandment”, although he felt, “Given that the band has built some dissonance into its act, it may take awhile for that to happen to One Direction.”

one direction: “oh, my.”

In 2010, when One Direction were contestants on The X Factor, they and their fellow series seven contestants released a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” in aid of Help for Heroes. The song, said to have been recorded in the week beginning 18 October 2010, was released as a charity single in aid of Help for Heroes, a charity which supports injured servicemen and women. All sixteen finalists performed the song on 20 November 2010’s results show. The single entered both the Irish Singles Chart on 25 November 2010 and the UK Singles Chart on 28 November 2010 at number one. In 2012, One Direction contributed to the fundraiser cookbook Dish for a Wish. The proceeds from sales of the book benefit the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity, an organisation that grants the wishes of sick children in the UK. On 9 May 2012, One Direction visited the ill children of the charity. In April 2012, One Direction teamed up with Charitybuzz to help raise money in aid for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. VIP tickets to meet the band in person on their North American leg of their Up All Night Tour were made available with the proceeds going to the children’s charity. In April 2012, they also aided the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) through bidding auctions to meet the band. In July 2012, One Direction teamed up with British Airways in a ‘text-to-win’ competition, which was launched on social networking websites, giving eight fans the chance to fly with the band on a one hour flight organized by British Airways. Money raised from the competition went to Flying Start, British Airways’ global charity partnership with Comic Relief, to help children in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries.
