Ang mga established at veteran actors and actresses na tulad ni Maria Isabel Lopez ay hindi na dapat pa ini-involve sa ONGOING BATTLE OF THE NETWORK GIANTS.

Kasi, hindi naman “fan-based” ang popularity nila, meaning, hindi na naman sila mga youngstars at hindi sila sa mga fans umaasa ng kasikatan nila.

The likes of Maribel, and other veteran stars have made a NAME of their own through the years. Malayo na ang nalakbay nila sa mundo ng entertainment scene. Kaya, sa on-going “war” ng mga network giants na tulad ng channel 2, channel 7 at channel 5- huwag naman sana silang madamay pa. They are here to support the entertainment sene- not to create more ‘havoc’.

Kaya naman natutuwa si Maribel na hindi siya dinadamay ng channel 2 at channel 7 sa mga intrigahan at kumpitensyahan. In fact, pareho siyang kinukuha ng mga ito. At pinag-aagawan!

Sa channel 2, muling binuhay ang namatay na sanang karakter ni Maribel sa TV teleseryeng “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo”, na kung saan ay kasama niya sina Jake Cuenca, Shaina Magdayao at Bangs Garcia.

Sa channel 7 naman, very meaty and important din ang role niya sa teleseryeng “Magdalena (Anghel Sa Putikan)” na kung saan ay kasama naman niya sina Bela Padilla, Dion Ignacio at Ryan Eigenmann.

Ito ang “Mariposa sa hawla Ng Gabi”, sa direksyon ni Richard Somes at pinagbibidahan ni Erich Gonzales, kasama sina Alfred Vargas, Mon Confiado at John Lapus.

“The Philippines gains a new Saint this October 21 in Pedro Calungsod.

“Calungsod will only be the second Filipino officially declared a Saint after Pope John Paul II canonized Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila in 1987.

“Very little is known about Pedro Calungsod.  GMA News TV Channel 11 sets out to introduce him to the audience–with a television special dramatizing his life.

“Pedro Calungsod was born in 1655 in what was then the Diocese of Cebu, which covered the islands of Panay and Mindanao, as well as the Pacific island of Guam.  An assistant lay catechist, he was killed “in hatred of the faith” by Chamorro natives while trying to defend his fellow missionary Jesuit priest Diego Luis de San Vitores.

“Through historical reenactments interspersed with interviews with Church experts and followers, GMA News TV’s provides the audience with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Calungsod’s life.  Young actor Rocco Nacino portrays the title role with much sensitivity.

GMA-7 talent and award-winning actor ROCCO NACINO (in his graduation photo) gives new life on St. Pedro Calungsod via a TV drama special.

“San Pedro Calungsod will air on Sunday, October 21, at 8:40 PM, the day Calungsod is canonized.

“The canonization is a big event for the over 80% Catholics in the Philippines.  At least 5000 Filipinos are flying to the Vatican for Calungsod’s canonization, including Jiggy Manicad – who will be reporting live for  GMA News and Public Affairs.”

Even senior stars like Lorna Tolentino goes where the work is. That’s why she chose to return to GMA 7 after her one-year contract with TV 5 expired.

“Tapos na ang contract ko with TV5.  And except for ‘Artisa Academy,’ wala akong bagong project,” she told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! in a phone interview.

The Kapuso network, on the other hand, is preparing  a heavy drama project for her. So she went to the network “kung saan may work.”

Lorna knows that competition in showbiz is as tough as ever.

“Hindi naman lahat ng artista nabibigyan ng projects right away,” she explains.

As for those questioning her decision to sign an exclusive two-year contract with GMA-7 (she has no exclusive contract with GMA Films),  the award-winning actress has this to say: “Senior stars should be beyond network wars.”

She thinks that instead of focusing on network rivalry, people should just be happy that the TV stations are creating jobs.

“There should be nothing negative.  Gusto natin lahat may work,” she notes. And because of that, Lorna wishes only the best for her former network, TV5.

Meanwhile, the comebacking Kapuso artist observed big changes in GMA 7 since the last time she worked there a few years back.

“After three years, the graduates of ‘StarStruck’ (the reality show) are playing lead roles.  I judged the show four years ago,” she revealed.

“FUNNY, BECAUSE SHE FIRST TEXTED ME THEN ON MY CELLPHONE, BEARING THE NEWS THAT SHE WILL BE DOING HER FIRST LEAD ROLE… AND SHE SAID- “SANA PO, SA NEXT PROJECT KO, IKAW NA ANG NANAY KO”. I SAID- “YES, IT WILL HAPPEN”. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT AFTER A WEEK OF THAT TEXT EXCHANGE, THE TV SOAP WAS OFFERED TO ME!

“I WAS TOLD THAT THE WORK SCHEDULES THERE WOULD BE LIGHT. SO I ASKED MY DOCTOR IF I COULD GO BACK TO WORK. HE SAID THE TWO MONTHS OF REST HAD HELPED IMPROVED MY CONDITION, AND SINCE THE SCHEDULES WERE LIGHT, HE ALLOWED ME.

“GOD IS GREAT, DI BA? HE GAVE ME ANOTHER JOB WHICH WAS PERFECT FOR ME. AND TO ANDREA’S DELIGHT, TOO! I AM PLAYING AS HER MOM WHO STARTED AS A DRUNKARD AND BITTER MOM BUT EVENTUALLY BECAME GOOD.

“WE ARE SO BLESSED, ROBERT! INSTEAD OF 13 WEEKS, WE GOT EXTENDED TO 20 WEEKS AND THE RATINGS WERE GETTING HIGHER EVERY WEEK! I AM HAPPY FOR ANDREA BECAUSE SHE WAITED LONG FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY. DURING “BLUSANG ITIM”, I ALREADY KNEW SHE HAD THE QUALITIES OF A GOOD ACTRESS.
